An earthquake jolted Shenyang, one of Northeast China's largest cities, on Wednesday.

The 5.1-magnitude quake struck at 12:18 pm on the border between Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning province, and Dengta city, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

A report on the People's Daily website said people in Shenyang said they felt a strong quake, which lasted for about 30 seconds, with houses shaking violently. The quake was also felt in other cities in Liaoning province, the report said.

No immediate damage has been reported.

In April last year, a 3.4-magnitude earthquake hit the border area between Dengta and Shenyang, the center said.
