Train collision in Florida injures 2

WASHINGTON -- Two cargo trains collided with two engines and some 20 cars derailed early Wednesday in Florida, leaving two injured while causing some 3,000 gallons of fuel to spill, Marion County Fire Rescue said.

The crash happened around 4:15 a.m. (0915 GMT) Wednesday when a 100-car train collided with a 110-car train at a rail crossing in the Citra area of Marion County, about 100 miles (160 km) northwest of Orlando, said the CSX company which owns the two three-locomotive trains.

The 100-car train heading to Chicago was carrying "non-hazardous phosphate rock," while the other heading to Tampa was loaded with coal, CSX said in a statement, not revealing the extent of the damage.

Two crew members were evaluated for injuries at the scene, but declined to be taken to the hospital, according to local media reports.

The cause of the collision was under investigation, the company said.
