British Film Week kicks off in Beijing

When talking about British films, most people may think of the Harry Potter series or Bond films. But Beijing made a push this week to further promote British cinematography in its second British Film Week, which began on Dec 5.

The opening ceremony featured a presentation of "The Deep Blue Sea". The film were chosen to provide a snapshot of lesser-known films. Wang Jing, director of "Fengshui" said, "British films are creative and dynamic, although they may not be as famous as Hollywood movies."

British Film Week will feature seven recently released films including "Submarine" and "Wuthering Heights", as well as digitally re-mastered versions of some older films.

The festival will continue until Dec 16. Tickets are available at Broadway Cinematheque MOMA for 40 yuan each.

British Film Week Beijing (and Xi'an) are the last public events of the UK Now Festival which was the largest festival of British arts and creative industries ever held in China featuring over 200 events reaching an audience of over 3.6 million in 29 cities, and with something happening (whether concert or exhibition or gig) every day for 257 days.
