Nearly 60 paintings and sculptures by Chinese artists aged below 50 have recently been added to the collection of the National Art Museum of China, and they are now on show through Aug 31.
Since 2016, the museum has started a yearly appraisal and collection of the works of home-grown artists.
Wu Weishan, the museum's director, says the event is to encourage young artists to respect tradition while being daring.
