Third time unlucky: Stranded humpback whale dies
A crane lifts the body of a dead humpback whale out of the sea in Qidong, East China's Jiangsu province, on Wednesday. The 7-meter-long and 2.8-ton mammal was first discovered stranded on a beach at noon on Monday. It was rescued and sent back to sea with the help of local police and fishermen. On Tuesday, the same whale ran ashore again 3 kilometers away, and was again rescued. The animal was found stranded a third time in shallow water on Wednesday. It died after struggling for hours in a rising tide. [Photo/VCG] |
