This year's first BRICS Sherpa meeting is going to be held in Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu province, on Thursday and Friday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Geng Shuang announced.

More than 100 representatives, consisting of Sherpa staff, diplomats and bankers, will attend the meeting, which is being held to prepare for the BRICS summit in Xiamen of Fujian province in September, Geng said at a regular news conference on Wednesday.

On Jan 1, China became this year's rotating presidential country of BRICS - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, and this meeting will be the year's first official BRICS event, Geng said.

The theme of the Sherpa meeting is to deepen the BRICS partnership and create a brighter future, according to Geng.
