BEIJING - China allocated 2.85 billion yuan (414 million US dollars) to rebuild homes that were damaged or toppled in natural disasters in 2016, according to a statement from the Ministry of Civil Affairs Tuesday.

A total of 29 provincial-level regions have disaster-hit homes undergoing repairs or reconstruction, the statement said.

The ministry said it will carry out supervision on rebuilding work and hear regular reports on the progress this year to ensure that all relocated people have proper places to live.

In 2016, natural disasters forced the relocation of over 9.1 million people and affected nearly 190 million people in total, leaving 1,432 dead, according to the official document.

The disasters toppled 521,000 houses and damaged 3.34 million others to varying degrees, the document said.
