Yunnan provincial legislature, in Southwest China, appointed Ruan Chengfa as acting governor on Tuesday, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Ruan, who hails from Hubei province, was also named deputy governor of Yunnan at a session of the Standing Committee of the Yunnan People's Congress, it said.

Ruan, 59, worked for the Hubei government for 38 years, and was named the Party chief of Wuhan, the provincial capital, in 2011, according to Yunnan Daily.

It is the first time in his career that Ruan, who graduated from Central China Normal University, has left Hubei to take a position, Yunnan Daily said.

The congress also accepted the resignation of Chen Hao, who was relieved from his post as governor of Yunnan, Xinhua said.

Chen, 62, was transferred from the All-China Federation of Trade Unions to Yunnan province in 2014 and named governor last year.

Before Chen, a native of Jiangsu province, began working for the federation in 2010, he held positions in government departments in Jiangsu and Shanghai.
