Top 6 Chinese cities with world's fastest growing tourism industry
Six Chinese cities are among world's top 10 fastest growing tourism cities, according to a report by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).
Chongqing with 14 percent annual growth rate of tourism revenue tops the list, followed by Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing.
Shenzhen takes the 8th spot with 10.7 percent annual tourism revenue growth rate, much higher than the world average 4 percent and 5.8 percent for Asia-Pacific.
The success of Chinese cities is largely driven by domestic business, as over 94.5 percent of spending in Chongqing comes from domestic tourists, and the revenue growth of tourism industry in these Chinese cities is tied to developments in the Chinese economy, according to the report.
Chinese market clearly plays a dominant role in terms of future growth and overall size and as a main source market for destinations in the wider Asia-Pacific, the report said.
The study covers 65 cities, 21 of which are in Asia-Pacific, and all the world's top 10 fastest growing tourism cities are in Asia.
Besides 6 Chinese cities, other cities on the top 10 list are Manila from Philippines, Delhi from India, Kuala Lumpur from Malaysia and Jakarta from Indonesia.
