Tourists from across the country headed to Beidaihe, a popular seaside resort in Hebei province, over the weekend not only for the views but also for the opening of Butong Art Town, a new destination for artists and visitors to experience a creative atmosphere.
Music, performances and immersive art shows at the opening ceremony added colorful vibes to the long-standing holiday resort situated in a district of Qinhuangdao.
The town's construction began two years ago as a way to integrate art and tourism to further boost the area's cultural scene. An artist residency program and exhibitions of art graduates' works were held as trial runs.
The art town's operators envision more diverse programs that will invite artists and designers nationwide to show their works in Beidaihe and contribute ideas to enrich its cultural landscape.
