The first round of 6,019 applicants who meet the qualifications for Beijing's household registration system, called hukou in Chinese, was published on Monday for public supervision, according to municipal authorities.

Beijing launched its points-based application system for household registration in April this year after three years of investigation and research preparation in advance, a move to meet the demand of non-native Beijing residents to stabilize their living situation in the capital.

Beginning Monday, the 124,657 applicants can check their results on the official website to see if they are within the top 6,019.

Li Sufang, deputy head of the Beijing Development and Reform Commission, said the number, which was decided to be about 6,000, was discussed thoroughly via the municipal government, and it will not affect Beijing's population control plan.

The central government has given Beijing a population cap of 23 million and asked the capital to maintain this level for the long term.

Li said the 6,019 new households will not affect the city's meeting the requirement.

The points-based application policy will continue, and will be an annual routine, but the scale will change accordingly to the number of applicants each year.
