Award-winning Indian actress, Rani Mykerji, recently toured China for the first time to promote her forthcoming film, Hichki.

Set to open across the country on Oct 12, Hichki marks the sixth Indian film to be generally released in China this year, following Secret Superstar, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, Hindi Medium and Sultan.

Mukerji stars as the lead character, an aspiring teacher who suffers with Tourette Syndrome, a neurological disorder that causes her to have involuntary verbal tics.

After landing her dream job of teaching at an elite school, the character is assigned to a class of defiant students who are isolated by the rest of the school, but she tries her best to help them find their true potential.

Mykerji said at the Beijing event that she hopes the movie will raise public awareness of Tourette Syndrome, and will promote equality and inclusivity to those suffering with the disorder.

Produced by Indian production company Yash Raj Films, Hichki is imported by China Film Group Corporation and distributed by Huaxia Film Distribution.

Following Mykerji's visit to Beijing, she also toured Shanghai and Shenzhen.
