Beijing Guoan extend lead at top of Chinese league
Beijing Guoan tightened their grip at the top of Chinese Super League table with a 5-2 home victory over Dalian Yifang at the Workers' Stadium in Beijing on Tuesday night.
The result increased the Chinese capital club's lead over Shandong Luneng to four points, ahead of Wednesday's round of CSL games.
In the 17th minute, Beijing went in front when Cedric Bakambu kept his composure following Renato Augusto's pass.
Guoan then doubled their edge five minutes before the break, when Augusto's shot deflected off teammate Jonathan Viera.
Seconds before the half-time break, Dalian gifted a way back into the match, as a result of Lei Tenglong's own goal. But two minutes into the second half, Piao Cheng rifled one into the roof of the net to restore the capital club's two-goal advantage.
Augusto then scored from close range to increase the lead to 4-1 just before the hour mark. Cui Min'an pulled one back for Yifang eight minutes later to make it 4-2.
But any hopes of an unlikely comeback were dashed with 15 minutes left on the clock. Bakambu got his second of the matchand 13th of the season.
