慢就业(màn jiùyè): Slow employment

Slow employment has reportedly become a trend among young college graduates. Some graduates choose not to go to work immediately after they graduate from college, opting instead to travel or stay at home waiting for a good opportunity.

According to the college graduate employment report 2018 released by Zhaopin.com, 6.99 percent of the college graduates in 2018 chose "slow employment" instead of immediately finding a job.

China's college graduates hit a record high of 8.2 million this year. Although it is not difficult to find a job, for many graduates it is not so easy to find an ideal job given the severe competition. That's part of the reasons of the slow employment phenomenon.

Some students voluntarily choose to go to work later for further development and they will take the postgraduate entrance examination or civil servant examination. But some other students choose to seek better job opportunities because they are not willing to do a job they don't like.

There are some new industries in the internet era, such as we-media and online retail, which generate new forms of employment that college graduates are keen on.

But the slow employment phenomenon is also something to do with the inappropriate courses taught by universities that fail to meet market demand; they should adjust what they teach so that it meets the needs of employers and the entire society.
