Shanghai has launched the first batch of 30 exhibition and transaction platforms to support the China International Import Expo (CIIE) which is scheduled to take place in the city from Nov 5 to 10.

The municipal government said that these platforms will provide multi-channel services for overseas companies entering the Chinese market.

According to the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, these platforms were established because it recognized that the six-day expo would not provide international exhibitors and buyers enough time to learn about the business opportunities in China.

As such, these platforms, which will be available all year round, have been introduced to help foreign companies understand the domestic market better, in turn facilitating the entry of products, services and technology into China.

"These platforms will also help promote the sustainable development of the expo and enhance Shanghai's brand as an international shopping destination," said Shang Yuying, director of the commerce commission.

The first batch of exhibition and transaction platforms come in four categories: integrated service platforms comprising mostly major exhibition centers that offer display and transaction services, cross-border e-commerce platforms that provide overseas products for consumers through online channels, professional trading platforms for specific products, and country commodity centers to showcase and trade products and services offered by a particular country.

The municipality has also set up a one-stop trading service platform to facilitate market access and transactions on Wednesday.

Cao Wei, vice president of Donghao Lansheng Group — the operator of the China International Import Expo — said smart services will be the signature of the Expo as information can be shared, demand and supply can be matched, and the experience of attending an exhibition will be reshaped.

As of the end of March, more than 1,600 companies from over 120 countries have registered for the inaugural edition of the CIIE.
