TAIPEI - Taiwan's exports to the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong hit an all-time high in March, according to data released by the island's finance authority Monday.

The cross-Straits exports for the month stood at $13.4 billion, up 30.9 percent year on year, a record high of 44.8 percent of the island's exports.

For the first quarter of 2018, Taiwan exported $32.9 billion worth of goods to the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, with electronic components accounting for about a half.

Expanding cross-Straits trade left the island a trade surplus of $19.9 billion.

Taiwan's exports to European countries and Japan also saw double-digit growth in the first quarter.
