China's trade surplus narrows in January

BEIJING - China's trade surplus narrowed in the first month of 2018, official data showed Thursday.

Trade surplus shrank 59.7 percent in January to stand at 135.8 billion yuan ($21.6 billion), compared with a 14.2 percent reduction registered in 2017, according to the General Administration of Customs. 

China's exports increased 6 percent to reach 1.32 trillion yuan while imports surged 30.2 percent to stand at 1.19 trillion yuan in January.
