Chinese Vice-Premier Liu Yandong has called for closer communication between young British and Chinese people involved in innovation and entrepreneurship. She made the call while attending the seventh UK-China Young Leaders Roundtable.

The gathering, which took place on Thursday morning in London's Southbank Centre, was integrated with the UK-China People-to-People Dialogue, which was jointly led by Liu and Jeremy Hunt, the United Kingdom's health minister.

Liu gave an opening address at the young leaders roundtable in which she focused on youth innovation and entrepreneurship, saying that it is "meaningful that this roundtable can follow the new trend and seize the key point of youth exchanges and cooperation" between the two countries.

"This year is the 45th anniversary of China-UK ambassadorial diplomatic relations, and we have entered a 'golden age'," Liu said. "People-to-people exchanges, strategic mutual trust, and trade cooperation are the key pillars of China-UK relations, and we have seen fruitful results over the past five years."

Liu said young people are the nations' most vibrant group and have limitless power for future development. She noted that the roundtable greatly helps promote cultural exchange and mutual trust, and injects new impetus into China-UK relations.

At the end of her speech, Liu sent good wishes to the young people of both nations, saying that she hopes they will take more responsibility, learn more from each other, and deepen their friendship and communication.

"China and the UK both have their own strengths in innovation and entrepreneurship, and the potential for win-win cooperation is huge," she said. "I hope that the young people of both countries can keep up with the time of technological revolution and industrial transformation, to create a more bright future together."
